FAQ
At Twickenham Physiotherapy Practice, we understand that you may have questions about our services, treatment options, and what to expect during your visit. We've compiled a list of frequently asked questions to provide you with the information you need. If you have a question that's not answered here, feel free to reach out to us.
-
What conditions do you treat? Here is a list of some of the issues we treat:
-
What should I wear to my appointments? We recommend that you wear some loose clothing. For issues from the hip down, please wear shorts or leggings. For upper body problems, please omit jewellery and wear a loose top.
-
Why are your treatment fees lower than others? Our overheads are lower, which enables us to meet our vision of providing affordable private physiotherapy.
-
Will I need joint manipulation?Joint manipulation is only needed for very stiff joints. Most of the time, we use gentler techniques to help with movement.
-
Will I need an x-ray?Not usually. X-rays photograph bones, not soft tissue. We are normally able to achieve a diagnosis by clinical examination.
-
Is the treatment painful? Not usually. While some people might feel a bit of tenderness afterwards, it typically subsides quickly. If you have any concerns, feel free to discuss them with your physiotherapist.
-
What should I expect at my initial assessment?Firstly, your physiotherapist will discuss your symptoms with you, including your current and previous medical history. This thorough discussion helps them understand your condition and prescribe an appropriate treatment plan. Following this, a physical assessment will be conducted to examine your movement patterns, core stability, strength, flexibility, and mobility. When relevant, you may be asked to demonstrate specific tasks or sport-related movements. Your physiotherapist will then explain your diagnosis and the best treatment options to aid your recovery as quickly as possible. The initial assessment will include treatment, along with specific advice and exercises tailored to your needs. Typically, the initial assessment lasts 45 minutes. Subsequent treatment sessions are usually 30 minutes long, though longer sessions can be arranged if necessary.

What are the benefits of physiotherapy?Physiotherapy focuses on reducing pain and stiffness while enhancing movement. This is achieved through a combination of techniques including soft tissue and joint mobilisation, exercise, and electronic therapies such as interferential treatment and ultrasound. Key Components: Mobilisation and Manipulation: Passive joint movements restore motion, stretch soft tissues, reduce muscle spasms, and release endorphins. Exercise: Tailored routines strengthen muscles, improve flexibility, and support overall well-being. Electronic Therapies: Interferential treatment and ultrasound stimulate cellular activity, aiding pain relief and healing. This holistic approach combines various methods to support recovery and improve quality of life.
